Our mission to our Mayan weavers is extravagant: we make uniforms for First Communion students each year from their cloth in our New York City workshop. We make a satchel and fill it with aid for food for the year, and medical aid for the elderly. The aid is distributed by the parish of Immaculate Conception in Chicacao, Guatemala. Second-hand clothing, resold in Latin America and elsewhere solves some problems and causes others. Amongst Mayans, the uniforms means the giver is worth knowing. A gift to a child preparing for First Holy Communion is a gift to a whole family. $50 buys a satchel of aid.
